This week, game developer and publisher Blizzard Entertainment emailed customers who pre-ordered the upcoming 4K remaster for the classic strategy game Warcraft III, and announced that the game would be released on January 28, 2020 at 3:00 AM PST will be playable.

The game was previously scheduled to launch before the end of 2019, but players had anticipated some delay when Blizzard didn't announce a fixed release date for the game at its otherwise crowded BlizzCon conference in early November. The company explained the short delay in a blog post and wrote:

Even though we worked hard to get Reforged in your hands before the end of the year, we felt that it would take a little more development time to finish it. As always, our goal is to meet the high demands you place on us.

As recent controversy about the game development crisis has made clear, the development of triple-A video games is complex and has unexpected obstacles and new opportunities. Such delays are common. Some enthusiastic gamers may be frustrated that they will have to wait a little longer, others will be happy if the focus is on quality or healthier working conditions for developers, whichever is the case.

Warcraft III was arguably one of the most influential games of the past 20 years, as it included World of Warcraft (which defined more than a decade of massive multiplayer online games) and community-made modifications to the MOBA genre (League of Legends , Dota 2, Blizzard's own heroes of the storm), which, together with the Battle Royale games, drove the esport and livestreaming revolution of the gaming industry.

It is also a very sophisticated real-time strategy game that contains many of the basics for the popular Warcraft franchise and universe. The remaster redesigns the graphics, adds a new online matchmaking infrastructure, makes changes to the game balance and other modernizations, and much more.

Warcraft III: Reforged costs $ 29.99 for its standard version or $ 39.99 for the "Spoils of War" version, the additional hero skins for the game, and other Warcraft III-related cosmetics in other Blizzard – Games like Overwatch and World contains of Warcraft. It is only available as a digital download from Blizzard's online software store.
