Trance DJ Menno de Jong Proclaims Retirement After 20 Years

Twenty years is a long time for any DJ career – some have proven themselves and are still sold out. Others have chosen a more sedentary approach and slowed down their tour to focus more on production and / or family time. For Menno de Jong who has been on tour as an artist for 20 years, it is time to put on the headphones.

Menno announced earlier this week that he would play the final set of his DJ career next September 12th. "The past 20 years have brought countless memorable moments," he wrote, "and allowed me to see many of the most beautiful places in the world and bring amazing people into my life."

he continued: "But in that time, I grew older and changed a lot as a person. I developed an urgent sense of urgency to make decisions about how to spend the remaining time in my life." Retiring now is ecological, as he explains: “It is becoming increasingly difficult for me to combine my beliefs about the environment and animal rights with a profession that is constantly being sprayed from one part of the world to another.”

It couldn't have been an easy decision, and Menno, who is only 35, still has plenty of time to devote himself to what he plans to do next. He will be taking a farewell tour in 2020, where all travel will be by train or sailboat whenever possible and, particularly if travel by plane is the only viable option, will be carbon offset. For every ticket sold to Menno Solo – The Finale, a donation of 1 euro is paid to Trees For All, a reforestation initiative that plants trees in different parts of the world. "

You can read his full statement below and find tour dates. Tickets will be available on his website from January 20 at 12:00 p.m.

My dear fan or friend,

With humble gratitude and respect, I hereby announce that on September 12, 2020 I will perform the last set of my DJ career at Menno Solo – The Finale. The past 20 years have brought countless memorable moments, enabled me to see many of the most beautiful places in the world and bring amazing people to my life.

But during this time I grew older and changed a lot as a person. I have developed an urgent sense of urgency to make decisions about how to spend the remaining time in my life. While the thought of touring as a DJ was infinitely tempting at first, over time I realized that it was also an enormously exhausting lifestyle that left only limited space for personal growth, health and time with family and friends. In addition, it is becoming increasingly difficult for me to consolidate my beliefs about environmental and animal rights with a profession that is constantly sprayed from one part of the world to another. These issues have always been close to my heart.

Until my last show, I will do my best to visit all the places I have performed in the past for the last time, so that we can say goodbye and celebrate with the great music of the past two decades, and so I can personally thank you for all your support – I couldn't have done it without you and it was a great ride.

I hope for your understanding, with much love,

Menno
