Music today lost another legend in Bill Withers .
The soul singer, known for timeless classics like "Lean on Me" and "Ain’t No Sunshine", died at the age of 81 due to heart complications related to cardiovascular diseases.
Although Withers had not been active in music for decades, he left a lasting impression with eight albums, three GRAMMY Awards, Hall of Fame status and his greatest hits, which are deeply rooted in our culture. These are songs we laughed and cried on when times were good and times were bad.
His family said in a statement:
We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. As a lonely man with a heart who strives to connect with the world through his poetry and music, he spoke honestly with people and connected them to each other. As private as he was near intimate families and friends, his music belongs to the world forever. In this difficult time, we pray that his music will provide comfort and entertainment while the fans cling to their loved ones.
With the outbreak of the corona virus (COVID-19), "Lean on Me" reappeared as an unspoken hymn – as is the case in difficult times.
Quiet in Peace, Bill Withers. Thanks for the music.
