The sub-brand Huawei has confirmed on Weibo (h / t: MyDrivers) that their upcoming Honor Play 4 series will offer an infrared camera with which the temperature can be measured.
According to Honor, the temperature measurement function works with objects, animals and people, but the latter is our attention. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is particularly important to be able to measure a person’s temperature. An official video clip shows us how this works. It appears that users simply have to hold the phone over the person’s body instead of actually touching the person.
It is unclear whether the infrared camera and the temperature measurement function are displayed on all Honor Play 4 series phones or only on one phone. Still, given the global situation today, this seems to be one of the more practical features of a smartphone. And if it works properly, we could see that it is useful for key workers on the front lines of the coronavirus pandemic.
