Anna Karina, Singer and French New Wave Actress, Lifeless at 79

Anna Karina, the famous actress known for her productive work in French New Wave films, has died, the New York Times reports. Her agent confirmed that the cause of death was cancer. She was 79.

Karina started filming as a teenager and was best known for her work with Jean-Luc Godard. She has appeared in many of Godard's films, including Une Femme Est Une Femme, Vivre Sa Vie, Bande à Part, Pierrot le Fou, Alphaville and Made in USA. She married Godard in 1961; They divorced a few years later. Outside of the film, Karina pursued a career as a singer and in the late 1960s achieved hits with the singles "Sous le Soleil Exactement" and "Roller Girl" written by Serge Gainsbourg. She has returned to music in the past two decades. Her last album was La Petite Sirène in 2013.
